It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of JBA Member, Mr. Wiley J. Beevers. Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court Chief Judge Passes Torch

After an illustrious twenty-two year career on the bench of Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court, Chief Judge Andrea Price Janzen will be officially retiring on December 31, 2018. In addition to her regular duties at court, Chief Judge Janzen has served as President of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; President of the 5th Circuit Judges Association; and Vice President of the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association. She is currently a member of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the American Bar Association; the Louisiana State Bar Association; and the Jefferson Bar Association. She serves on the board of directors for the 5th Circuit Judges Association, and the Jefferson Parish Children and Youth Planning Board. Judge Janzen is a past board member of A Child's Wish of Greater New Orleans; the Jefferson Twenty-five Political Organization for Women; the Loyola University School of Law Alumni Association; Boystown of Louisiana and the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association. She has served as Chairperson for the Louisiana Juvenile Justice Planning and Coordination Board and continues to be active in juvenile justice reform at the state and local levels. Upon recommendation of Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Catherine Kimball, Judge Janzen was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve on the Louisiana Children's Cabinet and most recently was awarded the 2018 Jurist of the Year by the 5th Circuit Judges Association.

To ensure a smooth transition of duties and leadership, Chief Judge Janzen will voluntaril y relinquish her title of Chief Judge prior to her official retirement date. Therefore, on December 21, 2018 she will pass the title of "ChiefJudge" with all its rights and privileges onto Judge Barron C. Burmaster. Judge Burmaster was elected to Section "C" of Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court on November 16, 2013. Judge Burmaster also serves as the presiding Judge for the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Drug Court. He is currently serving as the liaison between the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Office of Juvenile Justice. He is a member of the Louisiana District Judges Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Fifth Circuit Judges Association, is a member of the Judicial Division of the American Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the American Judges Association and both the National and Louisiana Association of Drug Court Professionals.
24th JDC Domestic Self-Help Desk - Volunteers Wanted!
Since April of 2016, volunteers at the 24th Judicial District Court’s Domestic Self Help Resource Center (SHRC) have assisted over 650 visitors. With over 40 visitors a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to noon, the SHRC is in constant need of volunteers. Your firm has the solution!
